Welcome to the Brecks Earth Heritage Trail - 90 million years of geological history

The Earth Heritage Trail is an App based resource for accessing some of The Brecks' hidden geological gems. Through these web pages and the App the Earth Heritage Trail aims to introduce visitors, students and local residents to the area's little-known wealth of Earth heritage features. There are 18 publicly accessible points of interest chosen for their geology, landforms and links with earliest human settlement; they may be visited in any order.

This trail is available in various formats, including hard copy (while stocks last). You can get your copy of the Earth Heritage Trail book at Brandon Country Park and various local museums and heritage outlets in and around the Brecks.

Introduction

The Brecks is one of the great natural areas of Britain. It is an area of sandy and chalky land covering some 940 km2 (370 sq m) in Norfolk and Suffolk. It has a fascinating Earth heritage, with a story of early human settlement set against a geological backdrop of millions of years of environmental change. Wind, ice and water have all shaped the landscape we see today

The Brecks Earth Heritage Trail introduces you to 18 points of interest across the area. You can explore them in any order. Each one provides a geological dimension to what you can see.
This website is an in-depth guide to the Trail. See the Trail Map page for site locations.
Please keep to designated rights of way at all times, and keep dogs on leads.
